Thinking about holidays, what are your essentials to pack? What would you leave out of your suitcase to make room for more books? What books will be going into your suitcase (kindle) for this summer hols?
Packing is such an ordeal for me. I never know what I should take and what is safe to leave behind. I normally make the decision that nothing is safe to leave behind and eventually take everything but the kitchen sink. If I could take the cat I would. One essential item for me is a travel iron. This has been the cause of many arguments between my husband Andrew, and myself so I always sneak it in between clothes so he doesn’t realise I have it until we arrive.
‘Hotels always have them,’ he is fond of saying and I have been caught out several times now. You’d be amazed how many hotels actually don’t have them. Okay, they are few and far between but all the same. One time was a family wedding when he assured me the hotel would have one. It didn’t and to top it all my lovely husband brought the wrong adapter anyway, so when I did go to use my smuggled iron I couldn’t. Guess who was the one guest wearing the crumpled dress? So, an iron is an essential and will not be left out for any book J
Essential items have to be insect repellent. We spend a lot of time in Asia and it’s the one thing you daren’t forget along with sun tan lotion, of course. I’m the worst packer. I squeeze everything in, claiming everything is essential. My Laptop is a must and of course enough pills to sink the Titanic. My camera and Blackberry tablet. Of course, every top under the sun is squeezed in. I have been known to pack a hot water bottle (don’t ask) I also feel all my jewellery is an essential item, not that I wear much of it on holiday. My argument is it may get stolen if left at home. Andrew laughs and you would too if you saw some of the cheapies I take with me so no one will steal them. My pillow, yes I know, but I like it.
Now, the best bit… What books will I be taking on my holiday to Asia this year? One choice has to be any of Tiffany Reisz. I’m just a little addicted to her at the moment. ‘Quiet Mind’ by White Eagle and probably another of his too and lastly I would have to take a Kimberley Chambers with me. I would even kick out the iron for one of her books. I would probably sneak in ‘Toxic No More’ by Amanda Smith as one read of that is not enough. I would throw out the pillow for AmandaJ
